Soon To Be- Saint Patrick's Day

March 17 celebrates the Irish American Tradition of St. Patricks Day. More celebrated in America that Ireland this holiday is our ( Irish Americans ) day to relish our heritage. Saint Patrick's Day (Irish: Lá Fhéile Pádraig) is a religious holiday on the 17th of March. It is named after Saint Patrick (circa AD 387–461), the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of Ireland. It began as a purely Catholic holiday and became an official feast day in the early 17th century. It has gradually become more of a secular celebration of Ireland's culture.

Yes I copied and pasted from Wikipedia. Deal with it ... I am a busy dude.

As a second generation Irish American I revel in the celebrations. As a bartender for many years, I raked in the spoils of the Holiday. ( record daily income $1100.00) As a Chef I enjoyed my most memorable occasions serving my guests the traditional American Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner. Boiled potatoes, carrots, cabbage Irish Soda Bread and the cured goodness that is Corned Beef became a specialty. I ask that you all stay tuned or check back for the perfect Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner. I have recently had a request from a good friend to replicate last year's going away party/St Patty's Day dinner. ( you can visit earlier posts for a preview) I promise good direction, good laughs, and good reading.

I sign off IrishNomad - Wandering this land in search of the perfect Saint Patrick's Day meal. To my pal Meg I say .... watch and learn. I asked Meg to allow me a week or two.I will do my best to post this weekend.

Dave is the Man

As you may know recently I have had a running bet with my friend Mr. Greg Cassetta regarding my popularity. I tried to explain that I WAS the most popular man in the world.
As we traveled together in various cities both here in the US and abroad, Greg was constantly impressed at all of the people I knew. Washington DC, New York, Chicago, Elmira, Bird in Hand, Muscogee, St. Paul, LA., Seattle, Panama City, Bangkok, London. I introduced Greg to mayors, miners and movie stars. Everywhere we went Greg was amazed at how many people recognized me and how many friends I really had.

I bet Greg $100.00 that I WAS the most popular man alive.

On his recent visit to Washington DC I had the opportunity to see again my good friend His Highness Pope Benedict XVI, ( I call him Joe). As Greg stood in the crowd while I had my audience with His Most Holiness there was a group of young Catholic women standing next to him. Greg overheard these women who could not contain their excitement at being present at this most historic event. Greg turned to one of the ladies and said “ You girls are really enthused about being here, is this the first time you have seen Him ? “

One of these young ladies said “ Oh no, we have met Him on dozens of occasions, however I am still awe struck in His presence. Could I ask you a question though ?”

Greg said “ Of course anything “

The young lady tuned to Greg and said “Who is that guy up there with Dave ? “
Time to pay up Greg.
